Mallet finger, also known as baseball finger, is an extensor tendon injury. It is common among baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball players and usually occurs as a result of a ball hitting an outstretched finger, in a failed attempt at catching it. This results in the inability to extend the finger. The affected joint is the distal interphalangeal (DIP). Ice should be applied to the finger immediately to reduce swelling. Highland Orthopedic Supply has a variety of finger splints designed to realign the affected finger and help straighten it out. Need help? Call us at 1-800-583-3771. We will gladly assist you.
