It’s mid spring and the weather is great! Its time to spend some time on the golf course. For those of you who suffer from golfer’s elbow, also known as medial epicondyliitis, you may be wary about swinging a golf club due to the pain and swelling. Golfer’s elbow is a result of inflammation on and around the medial epicondyle of the elbow (the inner portion of the elbow joint). Highland Orthopedic Supply carries a number of golfers elbow braces. What’s really great about these braces is that they can also be used for tennis elbow. All you have to do is rotate the pad to the opposite side of the elbow. Tennis elbow is characterized by inflammation on and around the lateral epicondyle of the elbow (the outer portion of the elbow joint). Its like getting two braces for the price of one!
These braces reduce the pain of golfer’s and tennis elbow by applying a counterforce to the affected side of the elbow to reduce tension on the swollen tendons. They are usually straps that wrap around the forearm approximately 1-3 inches below the elbow. The strap is adjustable so that you can tighten them to the point where you feel the most relief.
